At present, lockdown-like conditions have arisen in Mauritius. Cyclone Garance has hit Mauritius and La Reunion Island. A high alert has been declared on Friday regarding the cyclone. Currently, this storm has reached St. Denis. The distance between St. Denis and Mauritius is 227 kilometers and this storm is moving at a speed of 195 kilometers per hour. According to the International Religious Freedom report of 2011 in Mauritius, 48 percent of the population is Hindu.
This storm has become a danger signal for Mauritius. The country has come on alert mode and everyone is being appealed to stay at home for safety. Just like the whole world was asked to stay in their homes during the Covid-19 pandemic and were allowed to go out of the house only when it is very necessary, a lockdown situation has once again arisen in Mauritius.
When will the cyclone reach Mauritius?
Mauritius had heard about the cyclone on Wednesday itself and as a precautionary measure, the airports in the country were closed and schools were also closed on the same day. After this, when the cyclone came closer on Thursday, a red alert was declared and lockdown-like conditions arose. After this, the Meteorological Department of Mauritius had predicted that this cyclone would reach Mauritius by Friday morning. At 4 am on Friday, this storm was 245 kilometers away from Mauritius. After this, at around 9 am, it remained 227 kilometers away from Mauritius. Not only Mauritius but the French island of La Reunion also took the step of shutting down the airport on Thursday itself.
